Swiggy Partners with MSDE for Skilling and Employment Opportunities

Swiggy, India’s leading on-demand convenience platform, has partnered with the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) to launch “Swiggy Skills,” an initiative aimed at providing skilling and employment opportunities across Swiggy’s food delivery and quick commerce network. The initiative was launched by Shri Jayant Chaudhary, Hon’ble Minister of State (Independent Charge), Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, and Minister of State for Education, who emphasized the importance of the logistics sector in achieving the goal of Viksit Bharat @2047 and highlighted the government’s National Logistics Policy. “Our partnership with Swiggy demonstrates the potential of public-private collaborations in creating new avenues for workforce development in this critical sector,” Chaudhary said.

Swiggy Skills aims to tackle the growing demand for a skilled workforce in India’s rapidly expanding food, beverage, and retail sectors, which contribute about 13% of the country’s GDP. “As these sectors digitize and grow, the need for a skilled workforce across the entire value chain becomes urgent,” said Rohit Kapoor, CEO of Swiggy Food Marketplace. Swiggy Skills will focus on digital skill development by integrating with MSDE’s Skill India Digital Hub (SIDH) to offer online courses, certifications, and training modules for Swiggy’s delivery partners and restaurant staff. It will also connect trained youth with job opportunities in Swiggy’s retail, logistics, and F&B ecosystem and will directly recruit 3,000 individuals for various roles in Swiggy Instamart’s quick commerce operations.

Additionally, Swiggy will provide advanced training and internships to 200 MSDE-trained individuals in senior roles within quick commerce operations, leveraging its expertise to develop training modules on emerging technologies and industry trends. Swiggy and MSDE have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to solidify their commitment to creating employment, internship, and training opportunities in restaurant operations and retail management, representing a strategic effort to bridge the skills gap and equip individuals with the necessary skills to thrive in India’s dynamic digital economy.
