India’s Electronic Goods Exports Surge in June, Boosted by Production Incentives

India’s exports of electronic goods showed a strong performance in June, recording a 16.91% increase compared to the same period last year. The Ministry of Commerce and Industry reported that exports rose from $2.42 billion in June 2023 to $2.82 billion in June 2024, driven by the government’s Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme.

The growth trend in electronic goods exports follows a similar upward trajectory observed in April, where exports surged by 25.8% year-on-year, reaching $2.65 billion from $2.11 billion in April 2023.

Mobile phones continue to lead the charge in India’s electronic exports, contributing significantly to the sector’s expansion over the past decade. Looking ahead, India’s electronic manufacturing sector is poised to achieve substantial growth, with projections suggesting it could reach $250 billion over the next five years, up from the current $125 to $130 billion.

India’s domestic production in the electronics sector has also seen robust growth, expanding at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 13% from $49 billion in FY17 to $101 billion in FY23.

Overall, India’s export performance for the April-June quarter of FY25 remains positive, with total exports estimated at $200.33 billion, marking an 8.60% increase year-on-year. Imports during the same period totaled $222.89 billion, reflecting an 8.47% growth, according to official data from the ministry.
