Faster Trademark Clearance: Goyal Introduces AI and ML Innovations in IP Services

Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal has launched an advanced Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) based Trademark Search Technology, along with the IP Saarthi Chatbot. This innovative technology aims to expedite the clearance of trademark applications and resolve related conflicts more efficiently and accurately.

During the launch, Minister emphasized the importance of incorporating official languages in future updates of the search module, envisioning it as a global benchmark for trademark processing. He also expressed the government’s commitment to integrating AI and ML technologies for quicker design approvals, ensuring compatibility with various user interfaces and devices to facilitate broader adoption.

The newly introduced trademark search technology is designed to enable precise identification of trademarks, enhancing protection capabilities, and streamlining search processes for both domestic and international businesses. The IP Saarthi Chatbot will serve as a digital assistant, offering instant support and guidance to users navigating the IP registration landscape.

Highlighting the growing participation of women in innovation, Goyal noted a significant increase in patent filings by women over the last decade. To further encourage this trend, the government has decided to reduce patent fees by 80% for startups, MSMEs, women entrepreneurs, and academic institutions.

This launch marks the fifth technology-driven initiative within a week, underscoring the government’s proactive approach to improving the ease of doing business in India. Other recent technological advancements include the Trade Connect e-Platform, the Jan Sunwai Portal, ECGC’s revamped online service portal, and the BHASKAR (Bharat Start-up Knowledge Access Registry) for startups.

Goyal’s initiatives aim to foster a more conducive environment for innovation and entrepreneurship in the country, paving the way for sustained economic growth.
