Adani Group Plans Entry into UPI, ONDC, and Credit Cards: Report

May 28, 2024

Tuesday, May 28, 2024 – Adani Group, one of India’s leading conglomerates, is preparing to make a significant foray into the e-commerce and digital payment sectors. According to a report by The Financial Times, the group is in the final stages of launching a co-branded credit card and is considering applying for a license to operate on the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) network.

In addition to these ventures, Adani is also exploring opportunities to offer online shopping through the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC). These new services are anticipated to be integrated into Adani’s consumer app, Adani One, which was introduced in late 2022 and currently offers travel-related services such as flight and hotel bookings.

The e-commerce and payment solutions will initially target existing users of Adani’s diverse business portfolio, potentially reaching hundreds of millions of consumers who utilize its gas, electricity, and airport services. Customers will be able to earn loyalty points through bill payments and duty-free purchases, which can be redeemed for online shopping.

Furthermore, Adani plans to integrate NDTV content into the Adani One app later this year. This integration aims to enhance the app’s offerings, positioning it similarly to Tata’s super app, Tata Neu, which consolidates all of Tata group’s consumer products and services in one platform.

In related developments, Tata Group is reportedly planning to enter the online food ordering space via Tata Neu, leveraging the ONDC network.

These strategic moves by Adani Group mark a significant expansion into the digital domain, aiming to capitalize on the growing e-commerce and digital payment market in India.
